At the conclusion of the WNCC Basic Nursing Assistant program, the student will: 

• Demonstrate the basic skills required of the BNA role, including but not limited to vital signs, mobility, elimination, and comfort.
• Work effectively in cooperation with the health care team to provide direct care for patients with special care needs and unusual behaviors.
• Work in cooperation with the health care team to support quality of life and cultural and spiritual needs of the individual, including patients receiving end-of-life care.
• Communicate effectively with the patient, family members, and the health care team.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care provided in the medical record.

Nursing Assistants are important members of the health care team. They generally work under the direction of supervisory staff within a health care facility.

Nurse assistants work closely with patients on a daily basis to provide essential care such as checking vital signs, making up patient beds and assisting patients with tasks such as personal grooming. They can also assist doctors and nurses with basic medical procedures. As a Medication Aide, you'll learn the roles, responsibilities and skills needed to safely administer medications to patients.

Nursing assistants and medication aides work closely and under the direction of a licensed health care professional. They are qualified to work in a variety of settings, including: hospitals, rehabilitation centers, assisted living facilities, medical offices, and home health care facilities.

 

In order to enroll in the Basic Nursing Assistant program, students must be 16 years old or older.
